Lowell W. Schaberg

76, of Van Wert, died at 10:42 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2006, at Van Wert County Hospital in Van Wert.

He was born April 7, 1929, in Tully Township, Van Wert County, the son of the late Charlie and Florence (Freck) Schaberg. On January 14, 1951, he married Joan Sites, who survives in Van Wert.

Mr. Schaberg was a retired engineer for Phillips Magnavox in Fort Wayne, Ind. He was a 50-year-plus member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Convoy, where he was active on many committees. He also was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, joining in 1998. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1951 during the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post 208 in Convoy. He loved music and enjoyed playing in the Masonic Fellowcraft Band, Five Notes, Ray Giant Orchestra, Second Time Around band and Van Wert Alumni Band. He was also an avid sports fan and a member of the Van Wert County Historical Society.

In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Michael Schaberg of Columbus, Steve (Laura Andras) Schaberg of Strongsville and Mark Schaberg of Van Wert; two daughters, Elaine (Jim) Rhoades and Deb (Mike) Chiles, both of Van Wert; two sisters, Lois (Paul) Knerr of Fort Wayne, Ind., and LaVerne Makar of St. Charles, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Rebecca (Joshua) Marks, Catherine Schaberg, Erika (Rusty) Berner, Brian Rhoades, Jen (Mike) Biberstine, Cade Chiles, Gage Chiles and Dane Chiles, and four great-grandchildren, Zachary Marks, Madeline Marks, Carter Berner and Jordyn Biberstine.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Van Wert, with the Rev. Janice A. Berthinee officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.

Viewing hours are from 2-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 10, at Brickner Funeral Home in Van Wert and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials are to the Masonic Fellowcraft Band and St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
